The College expects search committees for faculty positions to ensure that all measures have been taken to attract a diverse applicant pool. Toward this end, the College requires that a search committee develop a diversity plan that must be approved before a job can be posted. One of the most efficient means of encouraging a diverse applicant pool is for faculty to contact their colleagues at other universities about the job opening and the department’s desire to attract a diverse array of applicants. This strategy, or something like it, should be a part of most diversity plans. The Dean’s Office also requires that the search committee provide evidence that the diversity plan has been followed before it will approve on-campus interviews.
The diversity plans linked to here have been approved by the Dean’s Office and can be considered as models for your own searches.
